You should rent one for your wedding, say car rental companies, but not all are as easy as you might think.
Car rental firms are starting to offer car rentals for weddings on the back of an increasing number of social media posts and an increasing trend among consumers to use their own cars.
While the trend is certainly not new, car rental providers like CarRental.com and GoCarRental, which operates in India and has more than 3,500 cars on its fleet, are the first to offer them.
They are also the first car rental services to offer rental car financing for weddings, according to a GoCar Rental spokesperson.
They have already begun to book weddings in the states of Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand and are expanding in other states in the coming weeks.
While GoCar has only been providing rentals for 10 days in the state of Madhya in the past month, CarRrents have been booking weddings in all the other states, including Bihar, Jharkhand, Uttaranchal, Bihar, Rajasthan, Jammu, Assam, Maharashtra and Goa.
GoCarRrent, which has partnered with auto leasing firm CarRentify, has more that 1,500 vehicles on its roster, with the vast majority of them being rentals.
The service is based on the premise that the demand for cars is rising and so are the prices.
It has partnered in India with auto rental firms like Avis, Avis Plus, Daimler, Tata, Renault, Hyundai and Ford, to offer its car rental platform in more cities, according a spokesperson for GoCar.
“There are only a handful of car rental houses that are really making car rental available to the masses,” said Rajesh Agrawal, managing director, car leasing at GoCar, who is also the chief executive of CarR.
“We are the largest car rental firm in the country and we are really hoping that the trend will continue.”
Avis, for instance, operates car rentals in the cities of Hyderabad, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Bangalore and Pune.
CarRents offers rental cars for weddings at a much lower cost, with rates ranging from Rs 10,000 to Rs 25,000.
In some cities, like Jaipur, GoCar offers rentals for only Rs 6,000, while in other cities, such as Mumbai, Go Car offers rental for Rs 25.
GoCar rents out cars for Rs 3,000 and rental car prices for Rs 2,500.
The trend, which is likely to continue, will bring a change in the way we buy a car.
“We believe that the car rental market in India is going to change in a very big way in the next three years.
In the past, you had to travel a long distance to find a rental car.
Now you can go to the nearest car rental shop for cheap and secure a rental for your first date,” said Arvind Dutta, founder and managing director of GoCar’s Delhi office.
According to GoCar and CarRupties, the popularity of the car rentals is due to the popularity and growing demand of car sharing.
The demand is also due to a surge in the number of car rentals being booked by car sharing companies, such a Zipcar, ZipCar Plus, Car2Go and others.
“The car rental industry in India has been growing at a phenomenal pace.
This has created a lot of demand for car sharing services,” said an official of Car2go.
Carrents also says it has booked more than 4,000 weddings, ranging from weddings for single couples to those for large gatherings.
“While it is true that there are only about 10 car rental firms in the entire country, they have already grown to more than 40 by the end of March this year.
In addition to that, we have over 5,000 car rentals scheduled across India for the coming months,” said Manu Singh, CEO, Carrents.
The company’s Delhi-based managing director Ashish Kapoor added that the number and quality of car leases in India are growing fast.
“In the last two to three months, we booked over 50,000 cars for our weddings,” he said.
