(AP) A car-rental company in Florida says it will pay $150-a-month fines after using a racial slur to solicit customers into its advertised rental car deals.
The Florida House voted to approve a bill on Thursday that would give state regulators the power to fine car rental companies for such “racially insensitive” advertisements.
It’s the latest in a series of high-profile legal cases against car rental providers.
Last month, a federal judge in San Francisco struck down a similar California law.
A judge last month ordered a Florida hotel chain to pay $25 million for violating the federal Fair Housing Act by excluding people of color and LGBT people from reservations.
