Now that Universal Pictures has completed its slate of big-budget movies, the studio is poised to unveil a major new franchise that could be the first in its line-up to break out into the big screen.
In October 2018, Universal will release Cars 4, a follow-up that will be followed by a film starring Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone.
In 2020, Cars 5 will debut, followed by Cars 6 and 7.
In 2021, Cars 8 and 9 will be the last two films in the Cars franchise.
It’s unclear when the next Cars movie will be made.
But the studio has long been rumored to be working on a sequel to its critically acclaimed Cars franchise, which spawned an endless stream of animated films and feature-length animated TV shows that are still popular today.
The franchise’s third and final installment, Cars 2, will release in 2018, but its release date has yet to be announced.
In 2017, Universal Pictures unveiled a slate of six films that it planned to debut before 2020: a sequel, an original movie, an action film, a romantic comedy, a horror film, and a science fiction film.
However, the slate was quickly shelved and no new movie has been officially announced.
The new Cars movie has a cast that includes the voice talents of Will Arnett, Kate Beckinsale, Ben Mendelsohn, and James Franco.
The film will also star Kate Hudson, James McAvoy, and Zoe Saldana.
Universal is currently in production on Cars 3, and the studio said it’s still working on Cars 4.
